Deeply resentful of his poor upbringing and his parent’s monetarily-influenced decision to support the arranged marriage of his younger sister, Zain, a precocious twelve-year-old who is currently serving time in a Lebanon prison, decides to sue his parents on the basis of having been born. Nadine Labaki’s politically-fueled drama has a unique storyline that brings attention to the issues of children in Beirut’s slums.

Capernaum was presented with the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival along with a fifteen-minute standing ovation.
